BIOGRAPHY
Antonio Wehrli is a contemporary artist who lives and creates in Glarus, Switzerland and Chengdu, China. His abstract and figurative works often feature vibrant and highly energetic colors, done in various self-developed painting techniques. They invite the viewer to a colorful world of wonders and dreams.
Born 1980 in Zurich, he would initially study engineering in Lausanne before dropping out to follow his dream of traveling the world. Working as a photographer and later as an art auctioneer aboard cruise ships, he moved to Chengdu, China in 2011. Starting his career as a full-time artist, he would live there for the next 10 years and i.a. create his locally inspired Panda - or Lotus-Series, which are still highly sought after today.
Antonio Wehrli is honorary dean at the Central Asian Art Academy and the Sichuan Tianfu Art Academy as well as an active member of several art associations. His awards, among others, include the Culture Award of Luodai Ancient Town in 2019, the Art Development Award of Luodai Ancient Town in 2018 and the Chengdu Boke Town Artist Studio Grant 2017-2019.
His artworks have and are regularly shown in Solo- and Group-exhibitions in China, India and Europe and can be found in numerous private collections around the world. They are also featured in various public collections like e.g. XLY MoMA Chengdu or The House of Roosevelt, Shanghai. He is currently represented by VA Galleries, Artgogo and WM Gallery in China.

Artist Statement
I paint vibrant, highly energetic abstract and figurative artworks. My signature element is the arrangement of thick layers of strong colors in a ying-yang pattern, which I like to call Tai-Chi waves.
Next, I use gravitational or centrifugal force to let them flow and communicate among themselves as well as with the painting or photograph that is getting covered by them. The colors are exchanging energies within the light spectrum.
My works advocate for communication and exchange, which are important aspects for equality and living in peace. Their strong colors encourage people to stop in their tracks to marvel, wonder, ponder and dream.
